A few words about fee charging agents

Because of recent events with certain agencies, I caution you to consider carefully before you pay up front money to an agent. It is accepted practice that agents get a percentage of any sales made for you. However, it is becoming more common to charge "reading fees."

Be a wise consumer. Know what you are getting for your money. Is the person who wants your money going to work to sell your manuscript once they get your money in their hot little hands? There is nothing wrong in charging fees for book-doctoring or manuscript evaluation. Just be aware of what YOU ARE BUYING. If you need a reason to be cautious, just go to Deja-News and search for the Woodside Agency.

I encourage opposing viewpoints. Email me if you wish to counterpoint anything thing I've written here.
